Jewel Staite portrays the good-natured mechanic Kaywinnit Lee 'Kaylee' Frye in Joss Whedon's "Firefly."

Staite began her acting career at a very early age, making her first professional appearance in a television commercial at the age of 6. After winning several acting awards, she made a guest appearance on "The X-Files."

Her other television appearances include roles in "Wonderfalls," "Dead Like Me," "Just Deal," "Da Vinci's Inquest," "Higher Ground," "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show," "Space Cases" and "Flash Forward." More recently, she appeared in "Stargate: Atlantis."
