SERIES / FIREFLY / BIOGRAPHIES
A native of Edmonton, Canada, Nathan Fillion is perhaps best known for his role as Captain Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds in Joss Whedon's "Firefly," a role he reprised in the feature film, "Serenity." He also worked with Whedon during the final season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," playing the villainous Caleb.
More recently, Fillion starred in the critically-acclaimed romantic comedy "Waitress," opposite Keri Russell. He also appeared in the supernatural thriller "White Noise 2: The Light" and the comedic horror film "Slither." His other feature film credits include "Saving Private Ryan," "Water's Edge," "Blast from the Past," "Dracula 2000," "Wicked Season" and "Outing Riley."
On television, Fillion played Alex Tully in the television series "Drive," and guest-starred on "Lost." He also played Johnny Donnelly on "Two Guys and a Girl."
Fillion originally had aspirations of being a high school teacher and studied at the University of Alberta. But after appearing in productions at the Edmonton Fringe Festival, he decided to pursue an acting career. He made his US television debut in the made-for-TV movie "Ordeal in the Attic." He was also nominated for a daytime Emmy Award for his performance in "One Life to Live." After his three-year run on that show ended, he moved to Los Angeles, where he began landing roles in feature films and television.
