Ron Glass is Shepherd Derrial Book, a mysterious holy man aboard the Serenity.

Glass is perhaps best known for his role as Detective Ron Harris on the comedy series "Barney Miller." His long career includes appearances on many classic television shows, including "All in the Family," "Maude," "Hawaii Five-O," "The Bob Newhart Show," "Good Times" and "Sanford and Son."

More recently, he appeared in "Shark," "The Division" and "All Grown Up." His other television credits include "The Education of Max Bickford," "Yes, Dear," "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Designing Women."

Like the rest of the "Firefly" cast, he recreated his role for the film "Serenity."

Ron Glass was born in Evansville, Indiana.
